Progress,,,, Finally

The trailer is Titled and Licensed! MVD inspection was a piece of cake. The person who did the paperwork, Terri, had never seen $5000 in receipts for a home built trailer before.

Spent the day getting the trailer under the boat. Had to re-position the jacks for every cross member. I must have climbed under the boat 75 times, lowering the jacks and boat stands. It fit like a glove.

I'm now working on the support bunks. Then the wood can be removed. Lee will be happy about the wood removal because it's a real PIA to get into the boat. Lee needs to take some pictures of the interior as she has done a lot of sanding, filling, and painting. She has started making the new cushions.

120' of piping so far. She is on the second cushion already.
It's been a nice summer here but we are going to head up to San Francisco Bay next week and help Brent move his boat down to Alameda.

  1. Think your idea for the trailer for the 8.0C is great. How did it work? Have you launched yet? Would you be willing to share some of the details? We are looking at an 8.0C here, my wife loves the layout.

    Sincerely, Tony

  2. Hi Tony, The biggest reason we got the 8.0C was the layout. The boat was in the water from mid Nov til last week (our sailing season here) and we spent about 14 nights aboard. Very comfortable. We have been having so much fun that we forgot to post about the adventures. Lee is looking for some pictures now so we should post some things in the near future.

The trailer worked great. I still need to tweek a few things with the pivoting keel support. I manually leveled the keel support with a ratchet strap this time, but once I get the floats on it should self level when we back into the water. The only thing I don't like about the trailer is the weight. With the drive around tongue extension (no dolly wheel) the weight jumped to around 2100 lbs. I'm going to weigh the entire boat this Sunday and see where we are. We are taking the boat from AZ to Idaho for the summer season in May.

  3. Great to hear,
Fun is not over rated. We are negotiating on the 8.0C here. It needs some work but we have space to do that. Structure is good, some of interior has been done. I have a trailer that had a 27' Cape Dory on it. New owner of it did not want the trailer. Got a deal since they wanted it out of the yard. Will be looking to modify it if the 8.0C works out. I might have some questions then. We have been looking for a trailer-able shoal keel boat to do both coasts of Florida and the Keys for a while now. We'll add a kayak rack since my wife and I met kayaking, even left our wedding reception in a double kayak. Hope to have a sailing kayak base camp on the water next year. There is a lot to explore, even if you have grown up here. Season in Florida can be all year if one wishes. Just have to duck the tropical weather occasionally, or sail south when it turns cooler. ;-)
